Rachael Paine

CHCI welcomes a new faculty affiliate, Rachael Paine, assistant professor in the School of Visual Arts (SOVA). Rachael’s background and interests are in graphic design, UX, and human-centered design.

She has a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Graphic Design and a Ph.D. in Design from North Carolina State University. Rachael has worked as an adjunct instructor at NC State University and a full-time user experience designer for SAS, a multinational analytics software developer.

About her interest in the CHCI community, Rachael states, “I am passionate about HCI because my research interests include uncovering the dynamics of human-computer interactions, interface design, and creating user-centric artifacts. HCI’s inherently multidisciplinary nature resonates with my research approach and aligns seamlessly with my overarching goal of fostering collaboration within the academic community at Virginia Tech. My long-term aspiration is to delve into IRB-approved research studies focusing on the usability of novel interfaces, including those capable of adapting to the user’s cognitive state and offering customizable information presentation.”
