CHCI welcomes new faculty affiliate, Louis Hickman! He is an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology and directs the Workplace Assessment and Social Perceptions (WASP) Lab.

Prior to joining VT he was at Wharton People Analytics in The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania as a Postdoctoral Fellow, and he is currently a Senior Fellow there.  He earned his PhD in Industrial-Organizational Psychology and his M.S. in Computer and Information Technology (with specialization in Natural Language Processing) from Purdue University.

Hickman works primarily on workplace applications of AI and ML, including methods for enhancing the fairness of and reducing bias in algorithmic assessments. His research is expanding to encompass explainable AI as well as how AI decision-supports influence human decision-making, including how to optimally design AI decision-supports to optimize decision-making.
