CHCI welcomes Anirban Mukhopadhyay- our new Graduate Assistant for the Center!

He is a third-year Ph.D. student in the Department of Computer Science at Virginia Tech, under the guidance of Kurt Luther in the Crowd Intelligence Lab. Prior to enrolling in grad school, he was a Software Engineer at Microsoft, India for two and a half years. He earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Science from Jadavpur University, India. He was also a Ph.D. intern at Microsoft in Software Engineering and Design Research in Seattle during Summer ‘22 and ‘23.

In the realm of research, he employs a mixed-methods approach that combines his skills in software development and human-computer interaction. He works on developing crowdsourcing frameworks for augmenting the work of fact-checkers and journalists for combatting online misinformation. He is currently looking at human-AI collaboration to provide the crowd more agency and the expert more control over the results for Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) investigations.

Outside of work, Anirban is interested in games like cricket, badminton and tennis. He also loves to cook and play board games. He is planning to do more hiking and kayaking this year, so please share your suggestions and plans.
