Recap of the CHCI 2025 Workshop on the Future of HCI

The Center for Human-Computer Interaction at Virginia Tech hosted its Ninth Annual Workshop on the Future of HCI on March 28, 2025, bringing together students and faculty for a day of big ideas, bold visions, and engaging discussions around emerging challenges in HCI.


Highlights from the Day
- Keynote by Dr. Steve Feiner (Columbia University): "What More Can We Want?"—a visionary talk on outstanding requirements for augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) systems..

Big Ideas Student Challenge: Students pitched bold research proposals imagining how they would spend a hypothetical $1M research grant.
- The Best Student Big Idea Award went to Ibrahim Tahmid for his presentation:
“Augmented Humans: Potentials and Risks of Context-Aware Ubiquitous XR.”
He received a certificate and $500 in research support from CHCI.

- The workshop offered a unique space for interdisciplinary exchange, collaboration, and inspiration across the HCI community at Virginia Tech. Stay tuned for next year’s call!
