CHCI announces new organizational structure
September 12, 2022
CHCI announces a new organizational structure starting Fall 2022, focusing on the three pillars of our vision: research, education, and community.
Three Pillars of CHCI
Excerpt from CHCI Vision Statement: We envision a world in which all humans are empowered to define their relationship with technology. In pursuit of this vision, the CHCI will serve as a world leader in the scholarship and application of human-centered technologies; train the next generation of leaders in the research, practice, and ethics of HCI; and be the home for all HCI-oriented faculty and students at Virginia Tech.
Todd Ogle will now serve as Associate Director for Community Engagement.
He is planning a range of engagement events, including external speakers and visitors, skill-building workshops, and networking/learning events.
If you would like to offer a workshop, open house, or lab tour, or to suggest an external speaker, please email Todd.
Kurt Luther will now serve as Associate Director for Research.
He is facilitating grassroots transdisciplinary research groups, for which CHCI can provide visibility, space, and funding opportunities.
These groups can be formed by any member, and should be open to everyone.
They can be topic groups or labs focused on reading and discussion in an area, or project/proposal groups for specific, focused research.
If you would like to form a group, or get your existing group on the list, please email Kurt.
Two existing informal research groups are:
Social Issues of Wearable Displays, hosted by Doug Bowman, meets every other Friday, 3:00-4:00 pm, starting Sept. 9, in Moss Arts Center 251 (Observe). Next meeting: Sept 23.
DISIS Audio Research Group, hosted by Ico Bukvic, meets every Tuesday (2 - 3:15 pm) in Newman Library room 121.
